It’s a very important time for Hollywood, the time when the 727 eligible 2012 films are finally narrowed down to just a few contenders for a not-so-august award: the nominees for the Golden Raspberry Awards, commonly known as the Razzies, which note the worst movies and performances of the year, have been announced.
The awards, which will be given on “Oscar Eve” (Feb. 23), seem unlikely to be a repeat of last year’s unprecedented sweep of every category by the movie Jack and Jill—but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few people and films that are repeat contenders/offenders.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2, for example, does have a chance for a sweep. The series conclusion was nominated in every single category, for a total of 11 possible Razzies, including Worst Picture; Worst Actress Kristen Stewart (who was also noted for Snow White and the Huntsman); Worst Actor Robert Pattinson; Worst Supporting Actress Ashley Green; Worst Supporting Actor Taylor Lautner; Worst Screen Ensemble; Worst Director Bill Condon; Worst Screen Couple for both Pattinson and Stewart as well as Lautner and Mackenzie Foy, who plays “Little Renesmee;” Worst Screenplay; and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel.
That’s My Boy was also popular among the nominators, with citations for Worst Picture, Worst Actor Adam Sandler, Worst Supporting Actor for both Nick Swardson and Vanilla Ice, Worst Screen Ensemble, Worst Director Sean Anders, Worst Screen Couple (a nomination of “Adam Sandler and either Leighton Meester, Andy Samberg or Susan Sarandon”) and Worst Screenplay. Another multiple-nominee was actor-director Tyler Perry, who was nominated for both Worst Actor (in both Alex Cross and Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds) and Worst Actress (in drag in Madea’s Witness Protection). Madea’s Witness Protection was also noted for Worst Screen Ensemble, Worst Director (a nomination that also included Perry’s work on Good Deeds), Worst Screen Couple and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel.

Although they didn’t score as many nominations as Twilight, That’s My Boy and Perry, the rest of the nominees represent a wide swath of Tinseltown, including: Barbra Streisand (Worst Actress, Guilt Trip), Nicolas Cage (Worst Actor, Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance and Seeking Justice), Rihanna (Worst Supporting Actress, Battleship), David Hasselhoff (Worst Supporting Actor, Pirannha 3-DD), Oogieloves in The Big Balloon Adventure (Worst Picture and Worst Screen Ensemble), John Putch for his direction of Atlas Shrugged: Part II, and the cast of Jersey Shore for their couplings in The Three Stooges.
Razzie winners receive a spray-painted trophy worth, the organizers say, $4.79. Nominations are decided by users of Rotten Tomatoes and by members of the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation. The winners, however, shouldn’t feel too bad: in 2010, Sandra Bullock’s Worst Actress win for All About Steve came just a day before she won the Best Actress Oscar for The Blind Side.
