A quick look at four new musicals that have opened on Broadway (or nearby) as the annual holiday rush begins. Two of them dream big, telling epic American stories. Another, based on Charles Dickens’ unfinished last novel, hands the storytelling chores back to the audience. The best of the bunch, however, is a modest little Christmas tale that just might become a holiday classic.
