Some of New Jersey’s most famous natives will take to the airwaves tomorrow night—along with at least one performer born an ocean away from the United States’ Eastern Seaboard—to help that state and its neighbors recover from the superstorm known as Sandy. NBC announced this morning that its networks—such as NBC, Bravo, CNBC, E!, G4, MSNBC, Style, Syfy and USA—will broadcast a one-hour benefit telethon at 8 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Nov. 2, featuring musical performances from Jersey natives Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, Long Islander Billy Joel, as well as Christina Aguilera and Sting, plus comedy from Jimmy Fallon.

Matt Lauer will host the live event (a pretaped version of which will be shown on the west coast) from the NBC studio near his normal Today digs at Rockefeller Plaza, north of still-powerless downtown Manhattan. All of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross’ efforts to help those affected by the storm.
The New York Times reports that non-NBC networks will also be able to show the program if they wish.
