Police in Sydney, Australia charged a man with indecent assault for allegedly groping Modern Family star Sarah Hyland.
The cast shot in Australia this week for an episode of the show. They were entering a cast member event when a man who asked to take a photo with the 23-year-old actress allegedly groped her chest, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Hyland told her security guard, who in turn called the police. Authorities said in a statement later that day that they had charged a 29-year-old man with assault with an act of indecency. The crime has a potential five-year prison sentence.
Hyland, who plays Haley Dunphy on the Emmy-winning show, was distraught and left after the incident. She later tweeted an apology to her fans.
Hyland’s boyfriend, Matt Prokop, also took to Twitter to air his feelings about the incident:
“To the a**hole who assaulted Sarah tonight I hope to God you don’t see next week,” he wrote in one tweet.
“All Sarah wanted to do tonight was say hi to the girls who were waiting outside one douche can ruin it for everyone. Goodnight,” he tweeted next.
“I’m done with twitter. Yes I believe someone who sexually assaults a woman or man for the matter deserves a s*** life. P*** off twitter,” he wrote responding to some who had tweeted at him after his first two tweets.
