Neneh Cherry and Robyn are flag-bearers for two consecutive generations of Swedish pop music: Cherry scored two top 10 U.S. hits with “Buffalo Stance” and “Kisses on the Wind” at the tail-end of the ‘80s before disappearing into relative obscurity, and Robyn has spent the last decade crafting indelible dance-pop cuts like 2010’s “Dancing on My Own.”
They come together on “Out of the Black,” the latest track released from Cherry’s upcoming album Blank Project. It’s her first solo record since 1996’s Man, and it’s entirely produced by shapeshifting electronic godhead Four Tet — you can hear his influence in the splashy percussion and chugging, menacing synths that propel Cherry and Robyn’s harmonies forward.
Blank Project is due out February 25.
