Nancy Motes, Academy Award winning actress Julia Roberts’ half-sister, was found dead in a Los Angeles home on Sunday. Roberts’ family released a statement Monday confirming the death, saying that Motes had died of an apparent drug overdose, though the Coroner’s office has not confirmed.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter told CNN that Motes was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:21 p.m. on Sunday. “She has a history of some medical issues,” Winter told CNN. “Some prescription drugs were found near her body.”
People reports that the family released a statement on Monday saying, “It is with deep sadness that the family of Nancy Motes … confirms that she was found dead in Los Angeles yesterday of an apparent drug overdose.” The statement adds that there is no official report from the Coroner and that they are “both shocked and devastated.”
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, and the case is still under investigation, CNN reports. Motes is the youngest sister of Julia and Eric Roberts, who is also an actor.
