The Monuments Men opens this weekend but one of its stars isn’t making the rounds on morning television shows.
Cate Blanchett was scheduled to appear on Good Morning America and Live! With Kelly and Michael on Wednesday morning to promote the film, but the Oscar-winning actress cancelled on both. Blanchett, who is nominated for an Oscar for her role in Blue Jasmine, also avoided doing any red-carpet interviews at the film’s New York premiere on Tuesday night. The star’s publicist told The Hollywood Reporter that the cancellations were necessary “to allow Cate the time and privacy to grieve for the loss of her friend Philip Seymour Hoffman.” Blanchett appeared with Hoffman in the 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley and the two reportedly remained friends.
Hoffman, whose body was found in his West Village apartment on Sunday, died unexpectedly from what police are investigating as an apparent overdose.
