The first half of her name is pretty much unknown; the second half is famous — but that’s how it usually works with Miss or Mister Golden Globes, the nepotism-embracing title bestowed each year upon a hand-picked Hollywood heir.
The honorary title, held this year by Sosie Bacon, daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, is given to the star’s child who is selected to help pass out statuettes and, as Ms. Bacon demonstrated shortly following her introduction, helps honorees find their ways off the stage. The other qualification for the title is to have aspirations of one’s own career in the industry, a criterion Bacon meets by being an aspiring actress. According to The Wall Street Journal, she recently appeared in a short film and a reading of a play. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association reportedly interviews contenders about their career goals; the ceremony is a chance for them to meet and greet industry insiders as colleagues rather than as their friends’ kids.
And, yes, sometimes it works — or at least it doesn’t hurt: past honorees include Melanie Griffith and Freddie Prinze, Jr.
