Madonna made waves this weekend when she posted a picture of her teenage son seeming to have some boozy fun.
Rocco Ritchie, 13, is shown holding a bottle of expensive gin with two young friends holding vodka bottles. Madonna’s caption said, “The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014.” The legal drinking age in the U.S. is 21, but the photo was taken in the Swiss Alps, where the legal drinking age is 16.
Commenters went nuts over the Material Girl’s parenting style. “It ain’t bad motherhood, it ain’t good either,” said one Instagram commenter. “Booze is not something to make jokes about. Period!” wrote another.
Other commenters jumped to Madonna’s defense. “They are just holding the bottles…I took a pic of my then 2 year old niece with a wine bottle in her hands…posted it on facebook…everybody found it funny & NO ONE reacted like some of you guys did!!! But maybe we germans are more tolerant & have a better sense of humor!”
Madonna responded to her critics on Sunday, insisting that no tweens actually ingested any alcohol. “No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don’t start the year off with judgement!”
