Paul Rudd has been tapped to star in Marvel’s next movie Ant-Man. This will be the first time the Anchorman 2 star will play a superhero. His character in Ant-Man is a bio-chemist named Dr. Hank Pym, who invents a formula that allows him to shrink to the size of an ant.
Rudd has long been a frontrunner for the role though there was also speculation that the part could go to actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Yet Gordon-Levitt is now attached to the superhero film Sandman from DC Entertainment and Rudd has officially signed on with Ant-Man.
The film will be directed by Edgar Wright, whose past films include Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and The World’s End. It’s set for release on July 31, 2015.
