You can thank Harvey and Bob Weinstein for a potential slate of sequels and television series based on titles from their glory days at Miramax.  Shakespeare in Love 2? Rounders 2? A television series based on Good Will Hunting? Yes, all happening now.

In 2005, the sibling founders of Miramax exited their boutique distribution company (after being bought out by Disney in 1993) and launched the Weinstein Company.  Disney sold Miramax and the rights to its roughly 750 films — which include Pulp Fiction and The Piano — to a group of investors.

The Weinstein recently struck a 20-year deal with Colony Capital to once again assume creative control of the properties in the Miramax library.

Harvey Weinstein says one of the first orders of business as part of the deal will be to create a sequel to Shakespeare In Love, with the brothers hoping to grab James Graham, a British playwright, to tackle the new script.

A Rounders sequel will be “instantaneous” Harvey tells Deadline, at least according to his discussions with star Matt Damon. From Harvey’s teasing, it sounds like writers David Levien and Brian Koppelman have put together quite the internationally flavored script for Damon and Edward Norton, a “certain beautiful Parisian actress and a new supervillian to replace John Malkovich,” possibly even Robert De Niro. These cards may get dealt plenty quick, as a second Rounders movie has been long discussed and everyone involved appears eager to get it made.

And while Shakespeare and Rounders will head to the big screen, Harvey says Good Will Hunting, Swingers and Flirting with Disaster all have a TV series for their future.

Just one of these announcements would have been news enough, but the Weinsteins offering up the future of Miramax films could keep Hollywood busy for some time.
