Your childhood imaginings about what happened after those Disney movies ended — if that was the kind of stuff you imagined as a child — just might be realized. Disney has just announced that casting is underway for a 2015 Disney Channel movie called Descendants, a live-action comedy starring, you guessed it, the progeny of famous Disney characters.

Here’s their description of the project:

In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic “Beauty and the Beast”) is poised to take the throne.  His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters.  These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan.  However, the evil teens face a dilemma.  Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?

The project has a certain whiff of Beauty and the Beast cross-over fan fiction — clever names, prep school, the island of misfit villains — but it’s, you know, real. And, if the movie’s pedigree is any indication, it’s likely to be big: it’s being cast by the folks who put together the High School Musical crew and, as the network points out in the press release announcing the new movie, Disney Channel has had five of the top six most watched cable-TV movies ever.

Plus, it comes with a bonus. Now we know that Beast and Belle officially did live happily ever after. Disney fans can only hope that the movie answers another burning question presented by this news: who the heck would want to mate with Cruella De Vil?
