Beyoncé and Jay-Z Going Vegan

Gwyneth Paltrow must be quite pleased

To wile away the hours between the gluttonous meals that mark Thanksgiving and Christmas, Jay-Z and Beyoncé are going vegan. The Carter family will give up all animal-based food products for 22 days.

“On December 3rd, one day before my 44th birthday, I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!!” the Magna Carta Holy Grail rapper wrote on his lifestyle website, Life and Times.

The challenge came from “a good friend” (Gwyneth Paltrow, perhaps, or maybe celeb trainer Marco Borges?) who suggested that the rapper and businessman “embrace a ‘plant-based breakfast’ everyday.” Once Jay Z realized that an animal-free breakfast was a snap, he apparently thought to take the diet to the next level.

Why 22 days? Jay Z noted that it has numerological meaning for him, especially with his birthday 22 (2+2=4), but according to Jay-Z, “Psychologists have said it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. On the 22nd day, you’ve found the way.

While Jay hasn’t fully committed to the plant-based lifestyle choice —and will be ending the vegan experiment right in time for a Christmas feast — he is keeping his mind open: “I don’t know what happens after Christmas. A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge? We’ll see…”
