After only three months with the Pixies, bassist Kim Shattuck has been fired. Formerly the frontwoman of The Muffs, Shattuck posted an announcement on her Facebook page on Saturday, writing: “Super disappointed to learn that my time with the Pixies ended today. Amazing experience. Looking forward to focusing my attention back on the Muffs and our upcoming new album. All the best to everyone.”

Shattuck joined the alternative group in July, after co-founding bassist Kim Deal abruptly quit the previous month during recording sessions for the band’s latest release, EP-1.

The band, which originally formed in 1986, has long had a history of nasty splits. In 1993, front man Black Francis went on BBC radio to announce the band was splitting up, unbeknownst to the rest of the group (Francis later called guitarist Joey Santiago, though he broke the news to Deal and drummer David Lovering via fax). The band later reformed in 2003, touring together throughout the following decade before Deal’s departure in June.

There’s been no statement from the rest of the group about Shattuck’s departure, though the Pixies are slated to start a North American tour on January 15th in Toronto.
