Director of the movie J.J. Abrams waves at the party for the release of the Blu-Ray DVD of "Star Trek Into Darkness" at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, California September 10, 2013.

After breathing life back into the wavering Star Trek series, J.J. Abrams has turned his attention to the franchise’s intergalactic rival. According to a report in The Verge, Abrams has signed on as one of  the principle writers for the forthcoming Star Wars flick, which he had already agreed to direct.

Along with Lawrence Kasdan, the writer behind fan’s favorite The Empire Strikes Back and fellow George Lucas enterprise Raiders of the Lost Ark, Abrams will be charged with scripting Episode VII.

“There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen,” said Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy in a statement  “J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right.”
