Students at a Queens high school got a pleasant surprise when they went to their assembly on Oct. 9: an impromptu concert by the epitome of a living rock legend.
Rolling Stone reported that Paul McCartney played a 13-song set for students at Frank Sinatra School for the Arts, wowing them with Beatles and Wings hits and songs from his latest album, New, which comes out next week. Tony Bennett, the school’s founder, was in attendance for the show on what would have been John Lennon’s 73rd birthday.
McCartney also took questions from the students, and said his collaborations with Lennon followed a simple, but crucial maxim: “We didn’t want to do the same thing twice.” In a room full of aspiring artists and performers, it’s advice they won’t soon forget.
