In addition to the super-fast cars—some flipping over, some on fire—that dominate the first, and short, trailer for Need for Speed, you can also catch brief glimpses of star Aaron Paul (in a role a bit different than Breaking Bad’s Jesse Pinkman).
Paul will, for the first time, take the lead of an action flick when the video-game-turned-movie hits screens on March 14, 2014.
Dreamworks paired the actor with director Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) to give life to EA’s successful video game franchise. In an unsurprising plot twist, Paul’s character, Tobey Marshall, must venture cross-country against all odds in time to enter a high-stakes underground race to have any chance of saving his nearly belly-up garage.
Is this a story about revenge — or redemption? Only time will tell.
The 1:34 trailer gives us a brief glimpse of the human side of Paul’s character, with the character leaving prison set on righting the wrongs done to him, but we also partake in more than our share of road-race scenes, which, honestly, should prove paramount in a movie version of a video game centered around wild racing.
Paul pairs with Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Michael Keaton, Dakota Johnson, Kid Cudi, Scott Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek and Harrison Gilbertson.
