In the tradition of Tug Benson, veteran deadpan farceur Nielsen plays the president as a man who’s not all there, but who takes a personal, hands-on approach to confronting threats to America’s security. In Scary Movie 3, he visits a farm where Signs-like crop circles have been found. Aliens do arrive, but only to fight the film’s true villain, a ghostly, Ring-inspired evil little girl, whom the president clumsily but effectively knocks back into the well in which she’d initially drowned.
In Scary Movie 4, he’s reading a book to schoolchildren, a la George W. Bush on 9/11, when news comes of a War of the Worlds-style alien invasion. Harris handles the revelation poorly, causing the kids to riot. Fortunately, U.S. forces capture an alien death ray (one that vaporizes humans but leaves their clothes intact) and reverse its polarity, though when Harris demonstrates it at the United Nations, he renders himself and everyone else naked. Oh, well, at least he has the right role model. During a crisis, he wanders the halls of the White House and says, “I wonder what President Ford would have done,” then gazes at a portrait of the Air Force One star.
