President James Marshall (played Harrison Ford)
How many times in movies has Harrison Ford had to rescue his loved ones from hostage-takers? To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, once is unfortunate, eight or nine times starts to look like carelessness. But in this instance, when Russian terrorists hijack his presidential plane, he’s not just daddy to the hostage Marshall family, he’s daddy to the whole country.
Fortunately, he has similar combat experience to that of President Whitmore in Independence Day. So he not only knows how to fly planes (or sabotage them) and how to navigate the secret passages of a jetliner, but he’s also not afraid to punch out the head terrorist (Gary Oldman) and bellow at him, “Get off my plane!” Which is still the best catchphrase ever from a presidential action movie, one likely never to be surpassed.
