Registry: USS Enterprise / NCC 1701
First Seen On: Star Trek (movie: 2009)
Some fans greeted J.J. Abrams’ rebooted version of the Enterprise with a degree of skeptcism. Die-hard Trekkies thought its proportions were all off: the engines were too big and the saucer section was too small — it looked like it might topple over.
And by some measurements, the new ship was apparently almost three times too big, dwarfing its non-rebooted self. Abrams and his movie crew explained all these changes by placing all of the action of the rebooted series in an alternate reality. And while Trek fandom’s inner circles may have grumbled, the viewing public seemed to love it. This was an Enterprise for everyone.
