Registry: USS Enterprise / NCC 1701 B
First Seen On: Star Trek Generations (movie: 1996)
For many years, the Enterprise B existed only as a historical model in the crew conference room of The Next Generation-era Enterprise. Trekkies could catch glimpses of it over Captain Picard’s shoulder, and some would debate what it might look like in action. Two things were pretty certain: it was likely an Excelsior class ship (the class of the eponymous USS Excelsior, which first appeared in the third Star Trek movie) and flew about 70 years before the Enterprise in the Next Generation series.
Finally seeing it in Star Trek Generations was a thrill: swan-like but bulky, it looked like a natural morphing of the original-crew Trek movie aesthetic and that of The Next Generation. However beautiful its lines, though, this Enterprise managed to get a visiting Admiral Kirk killed on its maiden voyage.
