Is there such a thing as having too much Agent Phil Coulson, the government operative played by Clark Gregg in The Avengers, Iron Man 2 and Iron Man?

ABC is betting the answer is “no.” Gregg will reprise his role in the upcoming TV take on the Avengers universe, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (That’s Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, for those not in the know.) The first teaser for the show is now available and, though it doesn’t give much away in terms of story or plot, those who like fights and chases and one-liners will have a few reasons to tune in.

(MORE: Richard Corliss reviews The Avengers)

Another reason? Joss Whedon—who, of course, was making tier-one television (Buffy!) long before he was directing superhero movies. Whedon is listed as a creator for Agents, which will also star Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge as S.H.I.E.L.D agents. They’re tasked with the Fringe-esque job of investigating strange cases that have not yet been classified. No word yet on premiere date.
