It’s hard to describe the raw power of seeing The Make-Up live. The combination of their kinetic garage-funk and frontman Ian Svenonius’ gospel-punk stylings hark back to James Brown’s perfectly executed soul revues, while fully incorporating the raw edge of the DIY punk scene. The band put out a series of albums on the legendary D.C. label Dischord Records, but none of them captured the true essence of the band’s live performances. Their inclusion on the Coachella lineup was a surprise to many—and might be one of your last chances to see the group in action.
See them live: 7:05 PM, Saturday, April 13, Gobi Stage
