The word “trill” is hip-hop slang for the intersection of truly and real, and the truth is that #Been #Trill truly really don’t sound like anyone else. The band, if you can call it that, is a collective of artists and art directors that includes Kanye West’s creative director Virgil Abloh, Lady Gaga’s creative director Matthew Williams, and long-time Nike creative consultant Heron Preston, and various other creative types. What, exactly, the group will do on stage remains to be seen. They’ve collaborated on a clothing line with Stussy, have a webstore and a popular Tumblr, and generally run artistically amok. They also are a self-described “group of friends who don’t DJ that DJ.” With that pedigree there’s little doubt that the show they put on at Coachella will be as much about visuals as music—and undoubtedly one of those shows you just have to see to believe.
