According to an item in today’s New York Post, Christopher Abbott, who plays nice-guy boyfriend Charlie on the hit HBO series Girls, has abruptly left the show.
Production on the third season had already begun, and his character — who had just reunited with Marnie (Allison Williams) at the end of the last season — was said to have a bigger part in future stories.
Abbott apparently clashed with series creator and star Lena Dunham over the direction she had mapped out for Charlie — sources confirm his departure was due to “creative differences,” and that the decision was “fairly mutual.”
There’s no word yet on how his leaving will be incorporated into the show.
