Yes, there’s a scene that takes place in a motel room shower earlier in the movie—infamous for its disturbing use of a chainsaw—but the image that continues to stay with us is that of Tony Montana lounging in an enormous hot tub.
Al Pacino’s portrayal of the Cuba-born cocaine kingpin is much sound and fury—he’s a ruthless criminal (though one with a fatal shred of conscience) pursuing a mad vision of the American Dream. Nothing at all like the smart and disciplined gangster he played in the Godfather movies, he gives Montana a simmering rage that actually makes a guy sitting alone in a big bubble bath look positively bad ass. (Said bad-assery only slightly diminished by Tony’s peculiar fascination with pelicans.)
