Did you know that Al Pacino actually considered playing the role of companion-seeking corporate raider Edward Lewis—and even read a scene with Julia Roberts? It’s impossible to think of anyone else but Richard Gere playing the part, but we’ve spent a lot of time imagining Pacino playfully snapping shut a necklace case on Julia’s gloved hand.
There are two big bathtub scenes in the movie. One scene, a few days into their relationship, has Vivian enjoying a romantic soak with Edward. And then there’s this famous bit, in which an ostensibly weird and awkward negotiation over sexual services is somehow turned into a playful exchange that, improbably, ends on a cute note. Hollywood!
