This year, the Internet came to the rescue (of course) and solved the mystery of what PSY is talking about in his hit song “Gangnam Style.” Google has revealed to TIME that the phrase “Gangnam Style lyrics” was the top-trending U.S. lyrics search of 2012. It’s not that surprising that a foreign-language mega hit would max out the list. How else would American horsey-dancers know that PSY is singing to the sexy lady about how he drinks his coffee before it cools and has big ideas even if his muscles are small?

Some of the other songs on the top ten are equally difficult to decipher on first hearing, even though they’re in English. Others are less difficult to understand—way to enunciate, Katy Perry—but reading over the lyrics will nonetheless help at your next karaoke outing. So, for your reading pleasure, here are the most trending song-lyric searches of 2012, with sample lyrics from the top Google result for the search in question. (Word to the lyrics-wise: some of these videos, if you’re actually listening to the words, which is the point, are extremely NSFW.)
