THE HAT: Born in Portugal and raised in Brazil, Carmen Miranda actually worked as a hat maker before her successful singing career caught the attention of Hollywood. She made 14 films in America and wore her signature “fruit hats” in many of them — most famously in 1943’s The Gang’s All Here. But perhaps her greatest was the fruit-bedecked headdress she sported, playing opposite Groucho Marx, in 1947’s Copacabana.
