To get a better grasp on Edwardian fashion, and subsequently the styles of World War I, Buxton referred to paintings, photographs, history books and costume museums, such as the one run by London costume house Cosprop. She also turned to the designs of Coco Chanel—she of the little black dress—during the second season. She didn’t use any of Chanel’s specific looks, but took direction from their simplicity.
