“How’d you get up there?” asks Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy to Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker at the start of the newly released trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man. “Fire escape,” he responds. “It’s 20 stories,” bats back Stacy before Parker delivers his zinger. “The door-man’s intimidating.” Yea, this isn’t your grandfather’s Spider-Man. Or…the Spider-Man that we saw just several years ago.

And, thankfully, this second stab at a trailer for the blockbuster, which is set to descend upon movie screens in early July, doesn’t resemble the studio’s first attempt, which came off as an exercise in utilizing the first-person perspective device to showcase Spidey swinging through the streets.

Well, here’s some first-person perspective: the new trailer for Marc Webb’s movie allows Garfield’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man to breathe. Sure, there’s the running and fighting but the dialogue goes hand in hand with the action, rather than be dominated by it. “You seriously think I’m a cop, in a skin-tight red and blue suit?” he asks a befuddled car thief which he utters after he’s chastised the crook for his choice of clothing.

We gets treated to some elements of the origin back-story as well as Parker being bullied at school (which looks like it’s taken a leaf out of the Glee textbook though, thankfully, slushies are nowhere to be seen) but those all-important action scenes look polished and slick. “Oh I’m in trouble,” utters Gwen Stacy at one point, which is what many fans felt upon seeing the original trailer. This attempt at take two should diminish those worries.
