The boys from Brooklyn, pictured in 1987, began as a punk band in New York’s late 70s hard core scene. In 1986, after joining Rick Rubin’s Def Jam label, the band released its first hip-hop record, Licensed to Ill, the first rap album to hit number 1 on the Billboard chart.
