This once cult midnight movie sensation has become so mainstream that a network teen show like Glee can devote an entire episode to Rocky Horror songs and no one thinks a thing of it. But there’s still a frisson of excitement when Tim Curry struts on stage and drops his collared cape to reveal his pearls, stocking and garters. Effectively a musical parody of B-horror and sci-fi movies, the film’s camp nature excuses a lot of deficiencies. But one thing that has never required any apologies is Curry’s performance as Dr. Frank N. Furter. Having originated the role on the London stage before taking it up in his film debut, Curry was well-equipped to portray the seductive, smirking and lithe mad scientist.
