War is hell, the Call of Duty games are about war, and the franchise has been praised for its realism. As such, things blow up, people get shot, and peopleā¦ well, sometimes people blow up, too.
The franchise got its start with World War II-themed titles before venturing into the modern era with the aptly-named Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series. The franchise has seen millions of copies sold, resulting in billions of dollars in revenue over the years.
Realistic violence aside, Activision Blizzard, the company behind the Call of Duty franchise, has set up the “Call of Duty Endowment,” with the goal of helping veterans find employment and with plans to donate $1 million to various veteran organizations.
