“It’s a black … tank.” Yes, Batman’s latest ride is pretty ugly. There are no graceful lines or cool bat wing design elements in this Batmobile, matching director Christopher Nolan’s more realistic take on the superhero. Filmed on the streets of Chicago (Nolan’s stand-in for Gotham City), the film’s centerpiece chase goes from city roads to rooftops back down to highways and into countryside. It all feels so fast and real mostly because it was filmed fast and real. Contrast this with the scene from Batman Forever in which the Batmobile — then looking like a car with leather dominatrix gear on — drives up the side of a building.
