Nipples. Anyone who has seen this movie knows what that means. Nipples on the batsuit. Nipples on the batsuit. It was just one of many design shifts director Joel Schumacher employed to distinguish his Batman’s world from the one featured in the overly gothic Tim Burton films. Schumacher’s Gotham City was a colorful, garish, slightly homoerotic one. The tone was lighter, the puns cornier and the performances unrestrained. Jim Carrey’s Riddler and Tommy Lee Jones’ Two-Face might come close to setting a record for most ridiculous laughs in a film. We know, we know, you laugh because you’re so diabolical! The only thing keeping this from being the worst Batman movie of the modern era is the one that followed it.
