Corporate Press Release Theater: Jay-Z, Meet Jay-L

More Jay Leno Show news: Jay-Z will perform on Leno’s first show Sept. 14, together with Kanye West and Rihanna.

Ironically, Leno has been saying the new show will probably have fewer musical guests and more comedy than The Tonight Show. Reason: musical guests get the studio audiences pumped up, but they don’t actually draw (or retain) much of a TV-viewer audience. But apparently if you put enough of them together, they’re still useful for attracting publicity. Like this.

Update: By the way, this makes me wonder yet more what the impact on booking for The Tonight Show is going to be. Who’s Conan going to have on Sept. 14? David Spade and a Nerf ball?

Excerpt from the press release after the jump:

BURBANK, Calif. – August 6, 2009 – NBC announced today that host Jay Leno will welcome superstar JAY-Z who will perform with Rihanna and Kanye West when the trio of entertainers break the seal on Leno’s new series in the premiere of “The Jay Leno Show” (Monday-Friday, 10-11 p.m. ET) as the new comedy series debuts on Monday, September 14.

JAY-Z with Rihanna and West will be the first to rock the program’s brand new stage as they perform “Run This Town.” The song is from JAY-Z’s highly anticipated new album “The Blueprint 3,” which will be available in stores and online on September 11.
