Spoilers for last night’s How I Met Your Mother coming up after the jump:

Are there many workplace comedies and dramas out there right now that have been doing storylines on what is happening right now in, uh, the workplace? The last episode of The Office referenced some Dunder-Mifflin-wide cost cutting (which, of course, endangered Michael’s fifteenth-anniversary ice sculpture), but considering that the paper business can’t be doing much better than any other, the Scranton office has gotten off pretty light on the layoffs front. Last night’s How I Met Your Mother is the first sitcom I recall seeing lately to make layoffs in the recession a plot point, but chime in in the comments if there are some I’ve missed.

Beyond that, there wasn’t much to recommend the A plot about Ted’s job, although I did enjoy the Ocean’s Eleven introduction to the fake GNB task force. (Side note: are the writers deliberately trying to make Ted the least likeable character on the show? Between the Karen arc and his smug satisfaction with what seemed to be a pretty lame set of designs and ideas, they’ve been setting him up as the true heir to the Massengill fortune.) Better to focus on the Canadian sex acts subplot, which gives us the lagniappe of an actual canadiansexacts.org website, featuring the lovely and talented Mr. Alan Thicke. (I imagine it would have been too difficult to score a .ca URL.)
