Welcome to the Dancing with the Stars finale, where the two-part season-ender is half over, and we have so many questions: Who will win? Will anyone dance to “Titanium”? How much boob tape will be used? Will Bruno Tonioli cry? Will Jacoby Jones leap over someone’s head? The only way these questions can be answered is by watching, so let’s jump right into it. To name a winner, the remaining four couples – Super Bowl champion Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff, American Idol alum Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas and Disney star Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkovskiy – competed in three rounds of The Dance. The judges scored, America voted, and the votes were tallied. The leaderboard rankings run from Zendaya Coleman’s 65 points to Jacoby Jones’ 56 points, but it’s anyone’s game. Tonight, the top three couples will dance the fabled and feared Insta-Dances with 30 more points on the line. At the end of the night, someone will be named the winner and get lifelong bragging rights, endless dance invitations and a Mirrorball Trophy that Carrie-Ann Inaba swears is “very cheap” and probably does not match any decor. Here’s what happened on Dancing with the Stars: Best Reunion: To kick off the evening’s festivities, the pros and all of the season 16 contestants rushed the stage to Pitbull’s “Don’t Stop the Party.” It’s like they threw a party and everyone came. There was Dorothy Hamill and DL Hughley (showing off his hip action) and Winona Judd and Tony Dovolani (on their police Segways) and even Andy Dick (front and center, trying really really hard not to forget his steps). Encore Performance: America took to Twitter last night to vote and chose to see a repeat of Kellie Pickler’s and Derek Hough’s emotional freestyle dance. It’s a beautiful and heart-wrenching routine, but it is kind of a downer from the party vibe they had going on in the ballroom. Jacoby’s Mardi Gras street party would have made a lot more sense in this

Welcome to the final performance night of Dancing with the Stars’ 16th season. Tonight, the final four will face off in three dances: Judge’s Choice, a Cha Cha Relay, and the Super-Size Freestyle, an extra-long dance with no rules, big choreography, extra glitter and glitz, and, of course, fresh spray tans for the contestants and pros (and probably the judges and hosts, too). After the dances, America votes. Tomorrow, the show returns for the big finale, with performances by Korean pop sensation Psy and rapper Pitbull. One finalist will be cut at the start of the show, while the remaining couples face down the dreaded Insta-Dance. At the end of the night, someone gets to take home the much-desired Mirrorball Trophy, which DWTS judge Carrie-Ann Inaba swears is “very very cheap.” Lest you worry that Dancing with the Stars is crass or heartless, host Tom Bergeron stopped the show to pay homage to the victims, families and first responders in tornado-ravaged Oklahoma City, and took a moment to acknowledge the fact that as a live show, they occasionally need to perform in the shadow of tragedies. Here’s what happened on the finals of Dancing with the Stars: Most Apt Dancing with the Stars Injury: The show opened with a disturbing image of Val Chmerkovskiy being injured in what appeared to be a gruesome spinning sequin to the face accident. The results were bloody, yet still strangely glamorous. Fanciest Footwork: The Judge’s Choice dances are meant to give the dancers a chance to show how much they’ve improved on certain dances — and the judges themselves usually step into the rehearsal space to dole out pointers to help the process along. Len Goodman was tasked with teaching Super Bowl champion Jacoby Jones how to sharpen up his much maligned (and oft-mentioned) pigeon toes before his second attempt at the jive. A few minutes with Len, and the star’s footwork was ship-shape thanks to the man he dubbed his “light-skinned grandfather.” Most Subtle Vote=Getting Ploy: During his dances with Katrina Smirnoff, Jacoby

When it comes to Dancing with the Stars, fans know what to expect, and that’s not a bad thing. The ballroom-dance competition reality show will have glitter, spandex, spray tans and Drama with a capital D as the show’s professional dancers whip a crop of E- and F- List stars into semi-professional samba dancers. The show never fails to live up to its fans expectations, which is how, in a sea of washed-up reality shows, Dancing with the Stars has managed to hold on for 16 seasons with very few changes to its dance-and-judge format. Part of the formula that makes the show work is the chemistry between the very distinct personalities of the judges, who — along with hosts Tom Bergeron and Brook Burke-Charvat — have provided a constant for the show, allowing it to stay wonderfully the same while existing in its own dance-driven microcosm. There’s the gruff, traditionalist Len Goodman. The wildly dramatic Bruno Tonioli, who is prone to judging while crouched over the table as if ready to pounce on the contestants. And then there’s Carrie Ann Inaba, the enthusiastic, effusive assessor, whose emotions frequently overtake her, resulting in a sort of undulating full-body glee. The judges are an integral part of the show and not just because of their role as quick-step evaluators. Over the years, they have become stars in their own right and it’s hard to imagine anyone aside from Bruno, Len and Carrie Ann filling those ring-side seats. Luckily for fan of the show, these judges, unlike the ones on, say, American Idol, aren’t leaving any time soon. As season 16 winds down, we sat down with Carrie Ann for a chat about the current season of DWTS, including her thoughts on why this season seems so dramatic; her new partnership with Skinny Cow, a chocolate she swears by; and who she thinks will take home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy next week. I’ve been recapping this show for several years, but this season seems extra dramatic. What do you think it is that

Welcome back to Dancing with the Stars, where the spray tans are bronze, the sequins are silver and the stars are solid gold. It’s the show’s 300th episode and we can only assume that they are celebrating with glitter champagne and confetti cake. There are five stars in the semi-final round, with four moving on to battle it out for a chance to compete for the Mirror Ball Trophy in the finals. The voters had their work cut out for them after the stars earned four perfect scores during the performance round — only a few points separated the top competitors. So who goes home? Maybe the guy who didn’t score a perfect 30? Sorry, Ingo Rademacher! While the soap opera star has vastly improved over the course of the competition, he’s not in the same league as, say, Zendaya. And lest you forget, Dancing with the Stars isn’t a popularity contest. If it was, Cloris Leachman would spend her evenings polishing her disco ball. That said, Zendaya’s fans may have been so traumatized by her low score that they had to go shop their tears away and spent the evening at Hot Topic instead of online voting. This is Dancing with the Stars, after all — and anything is possible. Here’s what happened on Dancing with the Stars: First Finalist: The second Tom Bergeron said the words “Your mama,” it was clear he was either making a poorly-timed joke — or that Baltimore Raven Jacoby Jones was safe. Sure enough, Jacoby is one step closer to putting the Mirror Ball trophy next to his Super Bowl champ one. Best Mom: Jacoby’s mom made her own ’10′ paddle, so she could give her kid a perfect score every time. That’s not overzealous — that’s just zealous. Also, good parenting. Repeat Performance: With four perfect dances to choose from, the judges opted to see Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough’s Argentine tango again. For good reason, too. The dance was mesmerizing and managed to simultaneously call to mind the opening sequence to

Welcome back to Dancing with the Stars, where the sequins have been shined, the spray tans sprayed and the hemlines raised in anticipation of a drama-filled semi-final round. There are still five contestants competing for a chance to bring home a giant disco ball trophy and they are all (to steal a phrase from American Idol judge Randy Jackson) “in it to win it.” Among the final five are four great dancers — and General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher, who is working hard while making the most of his underdog status. Tonight, the stars and their pro partners have been tasked with dancing non-ballroom dances, including hip hop and afrojazz. Will they fail? Will they succeed? Will they remember to tape their gowns to their cleavage? The only way to find out is to read on. Here’s what happened on Dancing with the Stars: Best Recovery: After Len Goodman’s temper tantrum last week, Derek Hough wants to make sure that the Argentine tango he and American Idol alum Kellie Pickler perform is both beautiful and technically correct. The red-and-black routine he concocted was perfect. Literally! At the end of the dance Len declared, “Close the door, call me Mary, that was fantastic!” which is code for 30/30. Good Hair Day: Apparently an Argentine tango requires being a brunette, so Kellie opted to cover her normal blond ‘do with a brown pageboy wig. Best Soundtrack: Underdog Ingo opted to skewer home his get-me-to-the-finals message with a subtly brilliant song choice for his samba: “One More Night.” One can only assume they back-masked the song with “Vote For Ingo.” Most Back-Handed Compliment: Bruno Tonioli told Ingo, “I love your passion, you don’t give up, you’re like a dog with a bone.” Ingo got a respectable 24/30. Best Reason Not To Have 3D Television: Len felt the need to apologize to “viewers with a sensitive nature” for all of Ingo’s hip thrusts. (MORE: Game of Thrones Watch: Dragons and Eagles and Bears, Oh, My!) Best Advice To Win DWTS: To prepare for their Afro-jazz

Brian Eno may be many things—musician, composer, producer, artist —but he is not impatient. His latest piece, an audio-video installation as part of the Red Bull Music Academy called “77 Million Paintings,” represents more than 30 years of work – and it’s not done yet. The focal point of the work, which made its East Coast debut in New York City this past weekend, is an ever-changing light painting made up of Eno’s many drawings. Every few minutes, specially designed software randomly selects those drawings, layering them in new combinations to create entirely new works of art — hence the title “77 Million Paintings.” Eno designed the slow pace of the self-generating work and outfitted the space with couches so his audience could sit and contemplate the gradually changing work, while listening to the ambient soundscape he composed to accompany the piece. The work is a meditation on stillness, that challenges city-dwelling audiences to abandon their schedules and immerse themselves in a different, more peaceful world. We spoke with the pioneering musician and artist about his work, the restorative power of art and music and why he hates the word “vision”: I saw your “77 Million Paintings” — it was a very Alice in Wonderland-like feel to walk in off a dismal NYC street into your exhibit. What did you want people to feel? Exactly that. I really liked the idea of someone walking in from a New York City street into this completely calm place where there will not be any surprises. After a very short time in there. you realize that nothing else is going to happen. It’s going to carry on like that for as long as you stay there. Nothing is going to jump out and startle you. I think a place where you can switch your tension to a different setting, to remove yourself from: Is that a car coming? Is someone going to bump into me? Switching off that sort of constant worrying liberates your mind. Suddenly, you become kind of open — even vulnerable

Welcome back to Dancing with the Stars, where the ballroom is still reeling from judge Len Goodman’s hissy fit. Following the meltdown, host Tom Bergeron declared,”Len needs a cookie,” but the truth of the matter is, we all needed a cookie in the wake of the epic tantrum, during which Len declared fan favorite pro Derek Hough very fallible and argued that fellow judge Bruno Tonioli couldn’t judge sitting down due to a misplaced piece of wood. (In the words of Monty Python: nudge nudge, wink wink). Of course he had to dock a few points from the show’s frontrunner American Idol alum Kellie Pickler, who now trails upstart Disney star Zendaya Coleman–recipient of the season’s first perfect score. So who goes home tonight? Hopefully, Len, for a nip of sherry and a good long nap. But one of the stars must leave too, and since it’s the week before the semi-finals, we are all supposed to care just that much more. If you’re wondering about the math and the fact that there are still six couples dancing for fun and profit, the show producers, in their infinite wisdom, are having four couples dance in the finals. Here’s what happened on Dancing with the Stars: Most Surprising Reveal: Usual Bottom Two denizen General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher, was announced safe first. His partner, Kym Johnson, didn’t seem to believe it yelling, “WHAT?!” in what seemed to be actual surprise. Most Surprising Jeopardy: After Len’s sassy critique/raging rant, Kellie and Derek are in jeopardy of going home. This is, of course, malarkey and shenanigans, but still: Shocker! Repeat Performance: After earning a perfect score for their salsa-rrific threesome with Gleb Savchenko, it was no surprise that the judges asked Zendaya and Val Chmerkovskiy back for another round. (MORE: Mad Men Character Study: Meet the Old Don. Same As the New Don?) Best Excuse: Baltimore Raven Jacoby Jones, who is not one to hold back with the TMI tidbits, revealed that he, when dramatically ripping his shirt open during his waltz yesterday,

Welcome back to Dancing with the Stars. Last week we bid a final farewell to comedian/actor/recovering addict Andy Dick, who used the ballroom as a venue to make his amends to his family, fans and friends. While it was admirable and occasionally entertaining, as the chaff gets winnowed from the …er, whatever the correct farming metaphor is, with Andy gone, we’re getting closer and closer to having a cast of putative stars who can actually dance. There are six stars left and the competition is winding down and heating up — and oh gawd, is it over yet? No, no, it is not. It’s the quarterfinals, which in the Dancing with the Stars universe means: threesome night! The stars will dance one duo and then shake their tail feathers three at a time for no other reason then to give the judges a chance to make thinly-veiled sexual references. — actually, make that more thinly-veiled sexual references — than they already do. Here’s what happened on Dancing with the Stars: Happiest Place: Setting a dance, let alone a salsa, to Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry Be Happy” seems like a strange choice, but Disney star Zendaya Coleman and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy pulled it off. She managed it so well that judge Carrie Ann Inaba announced, “I was getting to my happy place!” which is apparently worth a 28/30 Best Foreshadowing: For some reason Peta Murgatroyd decided to choreograph her dance with Bachelor Sean Lowe around a runaway bride. Here’s hoping that his prize/fiancée Catherine Giudici makes it a reality! The judges weren’t impressed with his moves, though, and he earned a paltry 21/30. Just The Worst: While talking to Sean and Peta about the chance that they will have to dance a hip hop routine next week, host Brooke Burke Charvat, right out of the blue, saucily said, “Swag.” Biggest Dream: Super Bowl champ Jacoby Jones is pretty sure that if Len gives him a 10 for his Viennese waltz, his mom will kiss Len right on the lips so

The phrase “Big in Japan” is a universal punchline, and it may have been invented for the band Cheap Trick. Following their 1977 self-titled debut, Cheap Trick – singer Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos – hit the road hard, touring incessantly, playing any gig that came their way, and eventually putting out two more albums, In Color (1977) and Heaven Tonight (1978). All three albums were critically acclaimed, but didn’t sell particularly well and certainly didn’t crack the Top 40. Except, of course, in Japan. Cheap Trick was very big in Japan. All three albums had gone gold there, despite the fact that the band had never toured there. That all changed when Cheap Trick crossed the Pacific in April 1978 for their first Japanese tour. According to Nielsen, they were shocked when they stepped off the plane and saw that thousands of screaming fans were waiting for them at the airport. “We flew coach,” he laughed in a recent interview with TIME. “We had no idea what was waiting for us.” As fans thronged them, the band had to have 24-hour guards posted at their hotel. They played for two nights at Tokyo’s famous Nippon Budokan and filled their sets with a fiery energy that was captured on the recording equipment set up to make a live LP. While the album, Cheap Trick At Budokan, was originally slated to be released only in Japan, the album made its way to the U.S., where the band’s raucous live performances of “Surrender” and “I Want You to Want Me” started making headway onto U.S. radio. When the label finally realized what was going on, they released Cheap Trick At Budokan in the States, eventually selling over three million copies and climbing the Billboard charts to number four. To celebrate the show’s 35th anniversary, Cheap Trick played two shows, one in New York and one in Los Angeles, recreating the exact April 28th, 1978 Budokan set for their die-hard fans. Before the New York

Beastie Boy emcee Adam “MCA” Yauch inspired generations of music lovers to fight — either for their right to party or for the rights of Tibetans. In return for his years of activism and music, fans fought for the right to name a Brooklyn playground after him. Tomorrow, Beastie Boys Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond are expected to join Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey, and members of Yauch’s family to honor Yauch, by renaming the Palmetto Playground on Brooklyn’s State Street as the “Adam Yauch Playground.” (MORE: Appreciation: Adam Yauch, MCA of the Beastie Boys) Yauch was a Brooklyn native who grew up on State Street. Initially reports surfaced that fellow Beastie Boy Ad-Rock was working with the NYC Parks Department to christen State Street Park basketball courts (where Yauch used to hang out) for the late rapper. The movement to rename the park grew, with fans getting onboard with the plan thanks to a post on the Brooklyn Heights Blog that gained steam on Facebook, with efforts shifting to the adjacent Palmetto Playground. According to a press release, Yauch learned to ride a bicycle in the park that will now bear his name. Yauch died from throat cancer a year ago this Saturday at the age of 47, only weeks after the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Welcome back to Dancing with the Stars, where someone is getting kicked out of the ballroom tonight. Also, Grammy winning singer Michael Bublé will perform, because, apparently, this show’s demographic spans from will.i.am fans to Icona Pop fans to Michael Bublé fans. In short, everyone loves this show. Just accept it. Resistance is futile, like The Borg. Now that you love the show, you’ll be pleased to know that American Idol alum Kellie Pickler has immunity and can’t be eliminated tonight, but everyone is on the chopping block. Here’s what happened on Dancing with the Stars: Most Appropriate Performance: Michael Bublé performed his single “Come Dance With Me,” which may not have been written for Dancing with the Stars, but may as well have been with it’s Louie Prima vibe and shout-outs to cha-chas and rumbas. Repeat Performance: Despite the fact that Mark Ballas had a neck injury and two compressed vertebrae after Olympian Aly Raisman landed on his head, the judges asked him to repeat his salsa from the night before. Apparently, there’s no crying in baseball and no such thing as sick leave in reality television. Least Surprising Save: Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkoviskiy are safe, as are Aly and Mark. Most Life-Threatening Jeopardy: Don’t tell Jacoby Jones’ mother, but Jacoby and Karina Smirnoff are in jeopardy. Jacoby’s mom is so going to hurt you, America, if you vote her son off. You’ve been warned! Most Inspiring Moment: Tonight’s AT&T Spotlight Performance focused on Camden, New Jersey where a teacher is using dance to help make a difference in children’s lives. Tuwanda Jones’ started the Camden Sophisticated Sisters drill team when she was 15 years old and works seven days a week with the young women on her team. Her dancers performed a rousing routine and then hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke Charvat donated mirrors to their dance facility. (MORE: Dancing with the Stars Watch: It’s A Pants-Off Dance-Off) Strangest Cross-Promotion: Host Tom obligingly mentioning that Amanda Knox would be making an appearance on the network later. Best

Welcome back to Dancing with the Stars. This week is Latin Week, where the remaining so-called stars will be stepping lively to a Latin dance to a Latin song while the host and judges throw around Latin phrases. Did we mention it is Latin night? But in the inimitable words of TV pitchman Billy Mays, may he rest in peace: But wait, there’s more! While Latin week (did we mention that it’s Latin week?) is usually its own momentous occasion, with “only” seven dancers left, it’s not enough to fill two hours of air time. To round out the primetime block, there will also be a dance-off in which the winners will earn extra points — and one team will get immunity. Here’s what happened on Dancing with the Stars: Best Fighting Words: Jacoby Jones may be a Super Bowl champion and a wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens, but he still needs his mommy. His mother is watching Judge Len Goodman after he panned Jacoby’s quick step last week. So even though he thought Jacoby’s salsa “rocked” the arena and called Jacoby a “cool dude,” the moment he mentioned that he would have liked fewer lifts, Mrs. Jones was on her feet hollering at the man. Best Bruno-ism: “You spent more time flying around than Iron Man!” Best Reason Not To Have Smell-o-Vision: Carrie-Ann Inaba told Jacoby that he “could fart the salsa,” which Brooke Burke-Charvat, of course, had to ask him about. “My grandma said you die if you keep it in, so I let it out.” He earned a 27/30. And a box of Gas-X. Don’t Put Sexy In The “Skills” Of Your Resume Section: Ingo Rademacher is pretty sure that his day job as a sexy soap star on General Hospital will prepare him for dancing a rumba. The judges didn’t agree. They thought he lacked fluidity and his hip action wasn’t smooth. He got a 22/30, with a surprising high vote from Len. (MORE: Game of Thrones Watch: The Walking Dead) Best Bonbon Shaking: American

It was Stevie Wonder week on Dancing with the Stars — and the R & B legend’s songs were a brilliant backdrop to a few incredible dance routines. But others had their fates, ahem, signed, sealed and delivered by faulty footwork and lackluster performances. At the end of the evening, the usual suspects (Zendaya Coleman, Kellie Pickler and Alexandra Raisman) were on top of the leaderboard, while bottom-dwelling regulars Victor Ortiz and Andy Dick were joined by Bachelor Sean Lowe. Here’s what happened on last night’s Dancing with the Stars: Opening Act: British singer-songwriter Olly Murs opened the show with his song, “Troublemaker.” Murs is making a big push in America (last week, he was on The View) but you can’t help but imagine a Mean Girl popping up and saying, “Stop trying to make Olly Murs happen.” Least Surprising Saves: When you get the “ten from Len” and Len declares your dance “the best dance of the season,” you’re definitely coming back next week. Such is the case with American Idol alum Kellie Pickler. Also ushered through to next week, with little ado, were Disney star Zendaya Coleman and Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman. Guilty Pleasure: As the show cut to commercial, DWTS’ in-house band struck up a rousing rendition of One Direction‘s “That’s What Makes You Beautiful.” Guys, that song is only meant to be played in secret — and we all saw you. Best Hope For The Future: Stevie Wonder himself announced that, after visiting the set, he is inspired to join the cast of DWTS: “I look forward to coming back and being one of the dancers. We’ve been talking about it for a long time and I’m going to make it a reality.” Worst Tom Bergeron-ism: A few moments after Stevie promised to be a contestant, Tom Bergeron announced that he go t a call telling him that Stevie is going on ABC’s celebrity diving show, “Splash,” instead. Don’t dampen our excitement, Tom. We want Stevie!
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival wrapped up on Sunday night with sets by California rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers (pictured), dark wavers Dead Can Dance, British electro-pop outfit Disclosure, and EDM maestro Eric Prydz, with a Wu Tang Clan reunion sandwiched in between. It was an aptly heterogeneous ending for the festival that draws thousands of music fans to the southern California desert. Spread out over two long weekends (April 12th-14th and April 19th-21st) the festival brought some of the most compelling rock, pop, hip hop and electronic music from around the world to play for fans willing to make the music lovers’ Hajj to Indio, California. The festival was marked with surprise guest appearances, upstart acts outplaying the headliners, bewilderingly wonderful interactive art projects, and the best acts around — all happening in a gorgeous desert landscape. Here are some of the highlights of Coachella 2013, weekend two: Most Refreshing Stage Banter: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark frontman Andy McCluskey seemed to know that anyone in the tent for the OMD show was in it for the nostalgia. That didn’t stop the band from playing songs off their new album, English Electric. Introducing one such track, McCluskey explained, “It’s new, it’s seven and a half minutes long, and you think you’re going to hate it, but you’re going to love it.” The audience went for it. Best Guest Appearance: During James Blake’s set, Wu Tang master The RZA showed up on stage to perform “Take A Fall For Me,” their collaboration from Blake’s recent album Overgrown. While it’s hard to complain about the chance to see RZA perform, this one was particularly endearingly odd as RZA groped himself while reading his parts off of a music stand — all while serenading a bored-looking girl who seemed as confused by her appearance on stage as the audience. Best Live Mash-Up: During the first weekend, Phoenix brought R & B legend R. Kelly on stage for a mash up of Phoenix’s “1901″ with Kellz’ “Ignition.” Not be outdone, 2
