Alfonso Cuarón took home the Directors Guild of America’s top prize Saturday night for directorial achievement in his 3-D space stunner Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock.

The stars seem to be aligned for space movie director Cuarón, who shared the Producers Guild’s best picture prize with 12 Years a Slave and is a promising candidate for best picture ahead of the March 2 Oscars, reports the Los Angeles Times. In the past 65 years, the winner of the DGA winner has gone on to win the Oscar for best director all but seven times.

Netflix original documentary The Square won the DGA documentary award, while Steven Soderbergh received the Robert B. Aldrich Award for his career’s work with the DGA.
