The Bachelor’s Juan Pablo Galavis Apologizes for Calling Gays ‘Pervert’

What he meant to say is that they are "more affectionate and intense"

ABC’s new Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis has apologized for anti-gay comments he made Friday night, in which he referred to gays as “more pervert in a sense.”

In an interview with The TV Page’s Sean Daly, Galavis had said didn’t think it would be a good idea for the show to feature a gay Bachelor because “I don’t think it is a good example for kids to watch that on TV.”

On Saturday, the Venezuelan soccer star offered an apology on his Facebook page, blaming the comments on his limited English and assuring the world that he respects gay people. What he meant to say was that “gay people are more affectionate and intense,” which might be “too racy” for an audience that tunes in weekly to watch one man make out with a multitude of women over a season, and sometimes over a single episode.

Here’s the full apology:

I want to apologize to all the people I may have offended because of my comments on having a Gay or Bisexual Bachelor. The comment was taken out of context. If you listen to the entire interview, there’s nothing but respect for Gay people and their families. I have many gay friends and one of my closest friends who’s like a brother has been a constant in my life especially during the past 5 months. The word pervert was not what I meant to say and I am very sorry about it. Everyone knows English is my second language and my vocabulary is not as broad as it is in Spanish and, because of this, sometimes I use the wrong words to express myself. What I meant to say was that gay people are more affectionate and intense and for a segment of the TV audience this would be too racy to accept. The show is very racy as it is and I don’t let my 5 year old daughter watch it. Once again, I’m sorry for how my words were taken. I would never disrespect anyone.

Ok, so this guy says it's a good example for a gay person to be a Bachelor or Bachelorette, because it would be a bad example to kids.

And one man cavorting with 20 women on national television at the same time is?????

What a joke.

It is a far worse offense to say something God hates is good than offend the whole would with an honest remark about homosexuality being wrong.

The Bible and just about all world religions say homosexuality is wrong.

Christians are to love what god loves and hate what He hates. God hates the sin of homosexuality: if you are a Christian DO NOT say homosexuality is good!

@chris.schene "Cod hates"

How do you know?

Do you talk to her?

Do you hear voices?

The bibul was written and edited by religious fanatics 100's of years after the supposed life of a recycled bronze age fable.

There is no historical evidence of his existence. And dont bring up the discredited Josephus etc junk.

Tucking your bigotry inside a bibul in order to disguise it doesn't make you a Christian; it makes you a zealot.

Homosexuality IS a perversion so therefor any practicing gay is also a pervert.

@chris.schene has issues with his sexuality. He is just another selfhating closeted gay conservative pretending to be hetero.

Pervert in Spanish means the same thing, Pablo. Please.

If you want to set an example to your child, you wouldn't be in that idiotic show.

The reason people have to apologize for voicing these opinions is that they are bigoted and hurtful. Clearly it's not acceptable in this day and age to make racist comments. We are in the same evolutionary process on anti-gay remarks.

I agree 100% sandieblue.  You can't say anything anymore without offending someone.  The Bible is very direct about this perversion and to have to apologize for what you believe is asinine.  Get over it.  I won't let my kids watch that version of the bachelor either if they decided to go that route.  I'd be puking for hours after.

@fandpllc  The scriptures are indeed clear: We are to hate what God hates and to love what God loves!

Keep the faith: Pleasing God is where it's at!

it seems that the current norms of society dictate free speech in our society rather than "truth" and decency".

i don't understand forcing someone to apologize for expressing what they hold to be true. the values in our

society are truly "upside down", the lifestyle of many of our youth are relecting these values and norms which

have evolved because of silence and lack of mature adult leadership.

This is a classic "non-apology." He doesn't apologize for WHAT he said, he's "sorry" for how it was taken, putting the blame on the listener. Kind of like, "I stand by my belief that gays are gross and shouldn't be seen in public, and I'm sorry that you disagree with me and choose to be offended, thus cresting a public relations nightmare."

And yes, his comments, by definition, are absolutely disrespectful.  Saying otherwise does not make it so.

This is such BS. Yet another person that is asked their opinion and condemned for it. If people don't want to hear an opinion other than their own then they shouldn't ask. The fact is, any form of unnatural sex is perverted. No one cares what people do in their bedroom, but why do we have to announce it and teach our kids what unnatural things happen in the adult world. It's not personal against gays. Hetero's are nasty too, but we don't announce all that to people.

Are you serious? I haven't seen a single sex lesson on The Bachelor. Whether the contestants were gay or straight, that would be the same.

Questionable apology, and all apologies certainly are including that of a NJ governor recently. Apologies are damage control for ratings and future will show the sincerity of the apology by a change of heart at least publicly.

Juan Pablo's language excuse: true, but Juan Pablo could use an interpreter for his second language (network can afford that), and he does not by choice.

His 5 year old daughter? Kids sense  a lot especially feelings and attitude when they cannot intellectually grasp. Perhaps a focus on better parenting for one child in as much as he is skilled in adult dating and love-making 25 women at the same time.

How does he or will he explain his example of all that simultaneous kissing and touching: his responsibility.

@EmilH.Michael People shouldn't have to apologize for their opinion, and if people don't want to hear an opinion other than their own then they shouldn't ask. Every human has a right to their opinion and if you disagree you must be a Hitler fan. The reason why children ask why same sex people are kissing and it has to be explained is because children are extremely in tune with nature and it makes no sense. They are born only understanding nature. Then adults violate them and fill their heads with garbage. Nature is the way to go. Should we teach our children about Polygamy and S and M, B and D? I mean why don't we teach them about all the sexual things we do that nature instill? I don't care what people do in their bedroom. In fact I with I never had to know, not my business. It sure isn't the business of children.

Are you serious, Wan Pablo has to apologize to mud packers and rug munchers. They are trying to force straight people to accept the fagets. That would be no different then if straight people try to force religion on them. Can't they give homosexuals and l izzies their own country. Ferry island. Maybe Puerto Rico or something. I don't want to see Ellen Degenerate or Drew Ferry on TV. Next thing there will be sex scenes with two guys. If that happens I will smash my TV. Brokeback Mountain needs to stay on the big screen. If you want to buy a ticket and watch it you can. But you are not forced to. Although Obooma is happy about it. It takes the heat off from him and all the crap he is pulling.

@DanielLGueths I'm so sick of people having to apologize for having an opinion of their own. If they don't want to hear their opinions then why ask?

@EmilH.Michael @DanielLGueths  We pay to watch TV and Duck Dynasty has the most viewers. Maybe it is you guys that should screw off since screwing seems to be all that matters.

We have a gay son that is one of the most honored ex-marines and sheriff in our county. He has protected, rescued and sacrificed his life for haters like you. He would never turn his back on anyone or say anything hateful because of their color, religion or sexual orientation. He has risen above that mindset. Why can't you. I would truly love to see you say your comments to my son's face.

No worries  Pablo, we, the huge majority understand. Even the great Galileo  was forced to retract...

I think there are far more people that feel as Juan feels, we just don't speak it out.  It is a sinful lifestyle, but we all have sin we deal with.  It is not for us to judge, but we certainly do not need to accept it as healthy and normal.

@AnnieGirl777 There are. America is supposed to be a Republic. Ever since they brainwashed us into thinking we are a Democracy, it all went to crap. Now minorities rule.

GetaBackBone

@MarioPrince-Charming @AnnieGirl777 It's called NATURE. Nature says sex is for procreation. When we put stuff in our mouths and other openings it's because we made that up. Things in nature only adapt for survival. Even bacteria adapts for survival. Nothing does things in a way that would deplete them. If we were all gay there be no more humans naturally created. Which to nature makes sex pointless. Human desires and dysfunctions have nothing to do with nature. When we are abused and neglected as kids we have issues when we grow up. There are VERY few kids that make it through childhood without being violated or neglected or left by their Daddy. Do you think everyone is just OK after that? Guess again. Many people just live a symptom of what they couldn't heal from. Not just gays, everyone.

Divorce is a sin...it says so in the Bible.  So I assume that you are avoiding divorced people and telling them that they're living a sinful life? Boy you sure are righteous....

Jkarter

@Anniegirl777, you are the best example of the typical popular stance of stating that being gay is a sinful lifestyle while simultaneously absolving yourself of taking responsibility for judging someone. By stating that it is sinful, you are infact judging. You are not the authority on what sins are better or worse than others.

MarioPrince-Charming

@AnnieGirl777  Based off of what??? Religion?? You do know that there are tons of religions out there, right? And you do know that different religions have different views on what is considered "healthy and normal". In some religions in the Middle East, a woman's only purpose is to bare and take care of children. If a woman does anything outside of that, she's living a "sinful lifestyle". Now, should we limited ourselves to their views?? If you answer no, I suggest you to shut the f**k up and acknowledge your ignorance.
