The Wolf of Wall Street Breaks F-Bomb Record

The Oscar contender uses the word 2.81 times per minute

Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort in a scene from The Wolf of Wall Street

Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street has set the all-time record for most f-bombs dropped in a R-rated film. The f-word is uttered 506 times in the movie, Variety reports.

Think that’s too many f#$*s? Then you should stay away from Jordan Belfort’s memoir upon which the movie is based. Belfort uses the f-word 737 times in his book.

Scorsese is no stranger to cussing. Some of the director’s previous films also fall on the short-list for most f-bombs: Casino has 422, and Goodfellas has 300. But until this year, Spike Lee topped Scorsese, holding the record for most f-bombs in a film with 435 instances in Summer of Sam.

It’s no surprise Wolf set a new record since the movie is all about excess: excessive hookers, excessive drug use and, of course, excessive swearing. (It’s also excessively long, clocking in at three hours.)

Now we’re just wondering whether it also won the title for most uses of Quaaludes in a single film.

I don't f-ing get why this is such an f-ing shock to all of the f-ing movie goers who saw the f-ing film. It was true to the f-ing book.....@737  f-ing times...and what f-ing Scorsese was f-ing looking for in the f-ing production.

The F bomb is the stupidest swear to use 99% of the time.  Just think about its meaning and then add it into where the person is swearing.
If one does have the need to swear, Sh$%t is much more expressive and it usually actually makes sense.

The black man isn't gonna let the record stand for long, after all, he invented cuss words while still working as a slave for the Man

A couple of years from now when I watch it on network TV all the dirty words will be cut out.

The questing?  Where have all the great TV and movie writers gone?   What happen to them?

Now they have to add cuss words, blood, boobs, car chases etc. to get people watch TV and go to movies.

you need to explain what 714 Quaaludes are for everyone under about 40. and the movie's expanation wasnt all that informative. plus the Rorer brand of 714's were what most folks used paired with coke for the penultimate high for sex.

There are directors who fall "in love" with certain actors--and I don't mean in a sexual sense.  Scorsese is like this with DiCaprio, who is one of the most overrated actors in film, and Oliver Stone did it with Charlie Sheen, who's one of the most overrated actors in film and TV.  This is not to say either is a poor director, but they certainly seem limited in their casting taste.

.. and to me, Di Caprio must be in good with somebody in Hollywood.  Why do films keep getting made with this young-kid-looking "actor" playing the part of grown, adult men??   He's not believable in any of them.

Reminds me of the first 10 minutes of "48 Hours" with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy.  Back then, it was for shock value.  So I just walked out and refunded.

The f bombs did not bother me, and the movie was funny in spots, but it was at least an hour too long.

What's the big friggin deal? Obviously everyone has forgot Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino all co-staring Joe Pesci's foul mouth.

I wouldn't watch a movie with DiCraprio anyway, never have, but if this guy would have stolen all my money,I would have gone goodfellas on his ass.As far as the F word, who cares,a Scorcese film without DeNiro or Pesci sucks anyway.

You people need to realize that those Americans with half a brain enjoy reading a news story as opposed to having a video pop up when you click on a story link.  Internet news sites are my newspaper in the morning….without all the subsequent mess and clutter around the house.

I don't think glorifying such a sorry movie about a crook is a great idea to begin with.

OOOooo, the F Bomb!!! Look out!!! Please. I've been using the "F" word since the second grade.

The author should probably learn to spell the director's name correctly. The movie was excellent - if you think it was too long, you didn't get it.

Oh come-on people, it was an excellent movie that was fast paced with great acting. I'm not one for excessive swearing either but that was part of the movie. You know, like a lot of violence is part of a war movie. It's pretty funny to listen to all these people get offended over such a thing. It's not the 1800's folks.

F-word who cares? and why is this considered news? I am more offended with Leonardo Decrapio in the lead role--should be called The P-----y of Wall Street

I have used the f-word before, but I save it for times like when I accidentally hit my thumb with a hammer. Using it all the time lessens the effectiveness of this word to let out steam in extreme, painful situations. Also, I always say that anyone who uses the f-language (using the word at least once in every sentence) doesn't have much education and can't communicate well.  I prefer intelligent movies, so I'll probably skip this one.

WTF Over? I saw the movie yesterday and thought it was a great film.

How can you make a film about immorality and debauchery and not show it?

Next thing, they will snivel that it showed too many naked girls, or that they showed the Swiss in a negative light.

Grow a pair and enjoy the flick.

I am a tad confused here.  Do all the people complaining about the excessive...everything, not realize this is a movie about the EIGHTIES?!?!?  That was the point, to show the excess juxtaposed with today.   If you didn't like the 80's you more than likely wouldn't like this film, which is based in truth.  Believe it or not you do have the choice of not going to see what is so obvious in the trailer.

@taxinhold Where does it say anything about "714" quaaludes? Designer drug......coke for the up high, quaaludes to bring you down. Nuts.

@HugoMann It is a very useful word. You would think people would be desensitized by it by now.

@HugoMann Oooooo you're such an adult because you use the "F" word. When I hear a person use the "F" word, or any other similar word, I know I'm in the presence of the ignorant.

@PatiUrias Good eye, hehe. It's a common problem, actually. My ex girlfriend, who's very bright, got his name wrong on some credits, which couldn't be changed. Too funny.

@Reed498 I agree with your comment. However, you have a mistake in your comment. You should have written 1800s.

@Dot What a F'g snob you are. I agree that overuse of the word becomes less effective.....but to not see the movie because using the "F-word" makes the move "unintelligent", just shows your lack of intelligence and your snobbery.

@izaerian There is no force in the world to stop American trolls from butting into other peoples business. Starts with trivial things like movies & ends with women's reproduction rights, marriage equality and invasions of other countries.

@dukeofparma@HugoMann Thanks for being disrespectful to me. I guess that's how an 'adult' acts. You may not be ignorant, but you could use a lesson in manners. P.S. I don't use that sort of language in mixed company. Only with friends, so luckily for you, I'll keep the F-word to myself.

@DunlapRE @Reed498 Oh....the grammar/spelling police always show up in any forum. Does this make you feel superior? You must be very busy.

@HugoMann@dukeofparmaoh dont flatter him. he prob IS ignorant (which is is inapt description of what drives people to overuse that word anyway). he justs wants to hide behind his keyboard to confuse you that he's some smart guy when's he's clearly not.

since few people here seem to know what *majority* of these real high roller sales types talk like in real life....THAS how they talk. dukeofhazrd's W-2 has about 2 fewer digits and places than these guys W-2's. not saying $ makes you better but if you want accuracy, what you got was what its like.

dukeofhazard can go back to waiting tables, being a volunteer librarian, sub english teacher or acting in local theatre where noone except family will come see you b/c the plays are just that awful. thats where he belongs. and will stay when it comes to making $$$
