‘Duck Dynasty’ Star Coming Back After Anti-Gay Remarks

A&E's suspension of Phil Robertson was short

Phil Robertson in Hawaii on 'Duck Dynasty'

The suspension of Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson proved to be short lived.

A&E announced Friday that the reality TV show star would be coming back in 2014, after he was briefly put on “indefinite hiatus” earlier this month following publication of an interview in which he compared homosexuality to, among other things, bestiality and terrorism.

“After discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family,” A&E said in a statement.

Robertson sparked an outrage when an interview published in GQ quoted him comparing gays to “drunks,” “terrorists” and “prostitutes.” Gay rights groups called for the network to cut ties with him, his family and conservative politicians defended him, and sponsors weighed whether or not to continue their relationship. But ultimately, the popularity of the show seemed to lead A&E to decide that a brief suspension was sufficient. Robertson had defended his remarks.

“We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold,” the network said. “But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man’s views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.”

If any person here was suspended, fired or threatened to be fired for speaking about their belief that gay marriage should be legal this would be a totally different conversation.

You, just like this backwards redneck, have the right to believe and say anything you want in this country without risk of being punished for doing so. Those rights don't get to be turned on and off in order to lend strength only to your opinions.

Freedom of speech is the right to stand on a soap box and scream out your most fervently held belief while 5 feet away another person screams just as loudly about everything you hate.

Welcome to America, wear a helmet if you are this sensitive.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth For this reason, God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.  And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do What ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,  slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,  foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. (Romans 1)

File this as another example of the corporate world embracing bigotry in the name of their "bottom line".

In the long term, A&E will regret their decision to side with Bible-thumping homophobes and other social conservatives who are destined to once again end up on the wrong side of history.

I just read the GQ article about Phil Robertson.  In the early 70's he beat up a bar owner and his wife.  And then he kicked his wife and kids out of the house.  A real American hero if you like trash.

A rare win for the Constitution and the right to freedom of speech & freedom of religion. A rare lose for the Homosexual Retribution Committee (HRC) & Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Democracy (GLAAD).

A & E just pulled a brilliant PR stunt. Between seasons they created controversy, threatened to change the cast, piqued the curiosity of those who don't watch and in the end changed nothing. Can't wait to see the ratings on the 2014 season.

You cant serve 2 masters.  Either A&E went with the GLAAD crowd or with their wallets.  With 12 million viewers they voted with their $$$ signs.   I'm loving the victory by the conservatives and Bible readers!!!

Phil stuck with his master from the beginning, Jesus Christ!!

I like how this article was written so that it seems that its actually not scripted actors.  I think everyone has figured out that reality TV is mostly scripted not actual live recordings.

Can someone explain the fact when other actors or alike make ant-gay comments their career is over. Why not this guy? Where are the protester - gay or not gay? Where is the big public outcry? Is this showing the new trend in US? When you let slip on through other will follow. Let's wait and see. Things can change quickly as one can see in Russia and other countries.

RIDICULOUS!  If that show did not make so much money Robertson would remain FIRED!  White Trash with Money: The downfall of America!

Robertson looks and thinks like a Taliban. Are they not America's enemy?

Matthew 5:44-46

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

We shouldn't celebrate victories over enemies like in previous posts like proverbs says:

Proverbs 24:17-19

Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:

To celebrate my frees peach rights under the constitution , I'm giving away candles just like in RevelTion 11 . Jesus rules; devil drools! "Come up heree!!!"

Great, now I'll have to marry a 15 year old, 20 is too old, believe that blacks were happy in the south in the 50's singing all the time, and not the blues, and that gays create evil.  Republican standards.

Looks like the LGBT movement made a SECOND major error in misjudging the American people. From Chick-Fil-A to Duck Dynasty. Perhaps they should stay as far away from things feathered creatures as they can? :)

@manofthecloth Yes, the Romans wrote the whole New Testament.  And if you didn't become a christian then it was, "Off With Your Head!"

@mary.watertonthis is not a free speech issue...it is a hate speech issue.  it is the kind of speech we don't need.

@PinkFloydFan Joshua and Jesus are generic names that literally mean "servant."  The Romans wrote the whole New Testament.  Also, there is no city called Nazareth on ancient Roman or Egyptian maps.  It's all a fairy tales just like Santa Claus.

@Elisabeth Alec Baldwin's career is hardly over and he has several anti-gay slurs to his credit.  Of course, he is a liberal darling, so those just fade away and everyone acts like it did not happen.

Ok maybe we shouldn't celebrate like revelation 11. We don't want to hurt feelings. But still, I'm giving away candles to celebrate my Jesus martyrdom at Jerusalem over 50 years from today's date.

John 3:16-18

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

@MarkAnderson1yep, but 15 is too old.  they marry by "lower" standards that tend to be with girls younger than 13 and selected within the family, 1st cousins.

@Openminded1Wrong most of America supports gay marriage now. They got 200,000 signatures to reinstate Phil. The highest DD viewership was 11.8 million viewers now it's about 8.4 million. 65 million people voted for President Obama. That's almost six times the Americans. Most Americans do not agree with his bigoted views but even so many of them will still watch the show even if they disagree with him. I watched three episodes of the show and it bored me to tears. I do not watch the show now, the vast majority of Americans must agree with me because out of the 200 million people who are probably old enough to watch only 8.4 million chose to watch.

@LeeSackett  The American peopel have spoken many times.  EVERY election for gay-marriage has been defeated at the ballot box.  It's the liberal judges that override the elections.

@aztecian @MarkAnderson1 Your right, Phil did find the love of his life when she was 14.  However they got married when she was 16, so I think 15 is a good picking number according to Phil.

@JohnWilson2 @Openminded1 I do not support Phil or the stupid show, I have never seen the show and could care less about it. My statement is not in support of Phil it is a fact statement that Phil and the show are back and that was because it makes money and has a fan base ,that far exceeded the out cry. Thus big mouths like Jessie and Al lose.
