Duck Dynasty Family ‘Can’t Imagine’ Show Without Phil Robertson

Robertsons say they are in discussions with A&E over the future of the show

The Robertson family “can’t imagine” Duck Dynasty continuing without Phil Robertson “at the helm,” the family said in a statement Thursday evening. The statement marks the family’s first public comments since network A&E suspended Robertson for his inflammatory comments toward gay people.

The Robertsons’ full statement:

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support.

The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E’s decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Phil would never incite or encourage hate. We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right.

We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.

Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.

Duck Dynasty is a highly successful A&E reality-TV show that follows the lives of the Robertson family, who became rich thanks to the commercial success of Robertson’s “Duck Commander” duck caller and other hunting accessories. Robertson’s comments and subsequent suspension have sparked an ongoing debate over free speech and bigotry.

Phil Robertson's comments were Biblically correct, and the Bible teaches us to love the sinner, not the sin.

Homosexuality is a sin: 1 Timothy 1:10, 1 Corinthians 6:9, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13.

Bestiality- a person having sex with an animal- is a sin: Leviticus 20:15 and 18:23 and Exodus 22:19.

Phil was paraphrasing 1 Corinthians 6:9 for the most part. I believe he is anti-sin, and that his goal is to remind people of what sin is, and to think about our beliefs and society. This is a goal of all who believe in the Word of God.

To misquote, lie, and falsely attribute hateful motives to such people is to incite violence against them which is a crime. As well as libel, and defamation

TO THINK-AGAIN.      [Lev 18:22 KJV] 22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.

When you said God did not say anything about man with man.  But what we all must remember its not the person  GOD loves the person its the act that's and abomination.  Want to know whats going on in the US floods, ice storm, tornado's its whats going on in the US we've turned away from God.

Its about freedom of speech he has the right to say what he wants to say.  Other people say what they want its in the  constitution so he should not be put off the show.  Its his right.

That's what I asked Santa for! Yeah!…no more Duck Dynasty? Bigoted, racist, homophobic Christians who casually hide behind their beards and defamatory words …they wear them as some religious moral camouflage …as if its okay to hate as long as you do it in the name of your favorite deity. Hate is hate…no one has to tell anyone … and if this idiot says this to a national magazine…can you imagine the talk around the dinner table? It is Ironic that men who Blow on Wood all day are Homophobic… Goodbye and go back to the bigoted bayou …

@allgoodlifeyep...duKKK dynasty redneKKKs need to disappear into the hills so we don't have to hear about their god, guns and gas guzzling 4x4.  we don't need these types of people creating hate and bigotry!  we need laws to protect against hate language.

@aztecian @allgoodlife You mean language like you somehow linking them to the KKK or just the things they say that you disagree with? LGBT's CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS! You want tolerance, try using it  yourself.

obviously you haven't heard what he said about African americans and picking crops.

@aztecian@SusanFox Obviously you have not read the article. Or what Phil said about being considered white trash and picking cotton with black people.  He told of his experience.  He did not comment on anyone else's experience or the civil rights movement, per se.

They should go Galt and cancel the show and ask their fans not to buy any more merchandise until they get another station. A&E thought they would make a show to make fun of rednecks(like honey boo boo makes fun of handicapped) but found out it attracted tons of viewers as the only show that doesn't make fun of white men,who created every advance of civilization since Asians created gunpowder. We live in a world where a 23yo turned down a $3billion dollar buy out from Facebook for a 2 year old company, and high schoolers earn millions of dollars for writing apps but leftists cry only Asians and whites succeed, but need to portray them as idiots

There is no one that watched the show that thought they would have anything but the views they have. Leftists cant let there be one show where white guys are not portrayed as being too stupid to walk and chew gum only to need to go to the diversity/African American Rocket Surgeon for advice. Can you really call him ignorant when he invented & patented something that made his family well off.

There is nothing diverse about a diversity that collectivizes the experience of every individual to ensure mass conformity.
It's not diversity. It's conformity & DD was the only diversity from the leftist narrative that existed on TV. They can do better even if they do their own shows on a youtube channel. .

@StevenMiller if this guy is not the epitome of the kkk...man...you should hear what he said about African americans and picking crops, even the naacp is getting involved, demanding and apology.  this dukkk calling whakkkO racist/bigot is going down.

Phil Robertson didn't group gays with people full of "murder, envy, strife, hatred." God did. Phil was quoting scripture. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3MwBGsj7kw&list=TLkDyxp8nN-jmz9QRt7_phaFvZzoG7rNgB Romans 1:26-32 NIV 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.  27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.  28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.  29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,  30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;  31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.  32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.  http://www.vfbt.org/jesus.html

Personally, I hope that A&E cancels DUCK DYNASTY and all other so-called "Reality TV" programs on its schedule, mainly because they've already damaged the TV channel's reputation.  (And as for Sarah Palin defending Phil Robertson's comments -- it's painfully obvious that she's overstayed her time in the public spotlight!)

StevenMiller
StevenMiller

@JohnLavernoich A&E thought they would have another Honey boo boo to make fun of people only to find that people flocked to a show that didn't portray white guys as too stupid to walk and chew gum & needing to get advice from a diversity/African American rocket surgeon. If diversity is the opposite of conformity than DD as the only diversity on tv. You are just bad that Sarah Palin is able to have it all, a high profile/power job earned on merit, a family, a beauty queen, the ability to hunt, and more manliness than you.

By the way, Phil, Jesus said nothing about homosexuality, but plenty about rich people. Like you.

Think about it, if you're going to be touting your Christianity, and views on who will 'get into heaven' -- while conveniently forgetting the challenges posed to you by the eye of a needle.

I miss the show so lets get back to it.  It makes me laugh and happy happy happy!

Why can't he say what he believes everyone else does.  That group of people say they just want to be accepted like everyone else.  Thats  a lie why if someone says something about them there habit is such a big fuss made over it.  If you want to be like everyone else accept it like everyone else when someone say something about  you and your life style .  If the shoe fits wear it.  Bring back the ducks.

Fastgirl

Then why are they having a DD marathon this weekend? If they have the values they claim to A&E wouldn't have the marathon and would cancel the show. They care more about the tons of money Phil makes them than they do about their pretend values. Lawsuits about what. Phil named other groups that the bible says are sinners and they aren't complaining.

Fastgirl
Fastgirl

They have already filmed 9 out of ten episodes for next season which air starting in mid January. Guess what Phil is in all of those episodes. Wanna bet A&E airs them.

aztecian

@Fastgirl bet they don't.  there will be some law suits too.  naacp is getting involved now.  you wait and see.  this type of hate preaching will not be tolerated.

@lanamarieHe CAN "say what he wants."

It's just that there is a price for doing so.

The media keeps distorting what was said, so how are we to believe ANY of what they have "reported"? The individual doing the initial "story" was obvious with their contempt for the Robertson's from the onset. Whether a person agrees with the man's religious beliefs or not, he didn't disrespect anybody, or malicious try to do harm. Sadly Time and the rest of the media ho's can't say the same. This is DESPICABLE, YELLOW JOURNALISM at best!

Most of America does not accept gay lifestyle, but if we voice it we are declared racist. We are not allowed to speak what WE believe without some kind of punishment. People talk bad about southerners calling them inbred and white trash all the time but that seems to be fine with everyone. But just let a christian say what they believe and all heck breaks loose. Is Phil not allowed to have his own views?

Piacevole
Piacevole

@rustmanChristians have been saying, and continue to say, all sorts of things for centuries.  As a rule, there have been no real consequences.  What is becoming more difficult for them to understand that the culture is changing, and that discrimination can be sort of problematic.  They can certainly go on discriminating, but there is now often a price to pay, because it is not true that "Most of America does not accept" gay people.  It is becoming quite evident that acceptance is becoming the norm.

LoisRubinGross

@rustman No, you're not thought to be racist; you're thought to be homophobic but bigotry by any other name, well, you get my drift.

HypnoCoosh1

@Piacevole @rustman

The only person being discriminated here is Phil. Typical of the liberal mindset to attack the white male conservative for having beliefs, opinions, or values outside that of the liberal media.

What's happening here is an instance of a white male Christian conservative discrimination that is finally getting the attention it deserves.

Piacevole
Piacevole

@HypnoCoosh1@Piacevole@rustmanI don't think you have quite said what I guess you mean to say.  You seem to want to say that Mr. Dynasty has been discriminated AGAINST.  He has not actually been discriminated against; he is merely finding out that his opinions do not pass muster with his employer.  People learn this, to their sorrow, all the time.  Television is a very good example of an "at-will" employer.  If the employer does not wish to employ someone any longer, it is free to terminate the arrangement.

Your second paragraph, however, although it isn't saying what you mean it to say, comes out to be true.

StevenMiller

@Piacevole@rustman Have you heard about Muslim Jihad against the west since the 8 century? I can understand your ignorance since Thomas Jefferson and General Blackjack Pershing stopped jihad against the west for multiple generations each.

Piacevole
Piacevole

@StevenMiller@Piacevole@rustmanThe Eighth Century would be 700 - 800 CE.  Since Islam began in about the middle of the Seventh Century, and was thereafter visited by several Crusades mounted by Europe, it perhaps could have escaped your notice

that much later, the Moorish Conquest spread through much of Mediterranean Europe to Spain, and eventually ebbed towards the end of the Fifteenth Century.  Then, Ferdinand and Isabella began to extricate Spain from Islamic control.  These were the same monarchs and at about the same time as they funded Columbus' explorations.  The point of this is that initially, all the aggression was visited upon Islam by the Crusaders.  It's really only fairly recently that we've, um, gotten some of our own back, so to speak.

I am most grateful not to personally have to live under Islam, myself - I don't think I'd fare well - but I also don't think that we've heard or seen the last of jihad, either.  And between Islam and Christianity and their relative aggression towards those not of their persuasion, I don't think there's a whole lot of difference.

@LoisRubinGross @rustman

bigotry is treating another person with "fear, distrust, hatred, or contempt." Phil Robertson believes that the lifestyle of homosexuality is morally wrong. He was asked what he believed, and he shared it. Now everyone is freaking out. It's really rather silly. For that matter, since you're definition of bigotry involves someone not morally agreeing with another, then you are also a bigot for being so opposed to his view.

And honestly, since calling you christophobic probably doesn't bother you much, as you are not his follower, why would phil being called homophobic bother him if has no belief in the homosexual lifestyle?

@Piacevole @StevenMiller @rustman I suppose you didn't learn that the Crusades did not start until the 12th Century. You also didn't learn that by the time Mohammed died Islam was knocking on Byzantine's doors. By 640 Damascus, Jerusalem, Aleppo were all under Islamic rule. In fact, by the year 733 Spain was occupied. The Islamic state continued to push against the Byzantine borders. In 966 Muslim riots led to the damage by fire of the Church of the Sepulcher  and in 1009 the caliph Al-Hakim ordered its complete destruction. With the requests of the Emperor of Byzantine to the pope for help maybe you think the Christians should have just sat down and watched how Islam was being such a nice fellow and done nothing. Behold in 1055 Pope Urban urges Christians to defend their brothers in faith, the Crusades began. Yes, I know, the poor nice Muslims were completely innocent. Also, it wasn't Crusade forces that stopped the ottoman empire from conquering Europe, maybe today you would have lived in that wonderful Muslim world you so dread. The coercion of Islam cannot be compared to what went on in the Christian world. Dhimmitude and Jizya have no comparison.

I don't pray so they count me out, but then again I am not a fan or supporter and I have only recently seen their show.  It is one of the most boring, inane programs I have ever seen on tv and I don't plan on tuning in again.  But the controversy created by this fool bible thumper is immensely more interesting than the trite tv show.
