Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft franchise has been around for only 19 years, but Tyrande Whisperwind has been high priestess of the moon goddess and a leader of her people, the Night Elves, for 10,000 years. She’s your typical fantasy heroine, beautiful, compassionate, and fierce, at least for gamers and comics readers. Alas, fellas, she’s taken; she’s married to Archdruid Malfurion Stormrage and is persistently loyal to him, even though he’s not around much.
She comes by her leadership position honestly, having served as the general of the night elf sentinels. She’s a reluctant warrior but a fearless one, riding a frostsaber tiger named Ash’alah into combat and wielding a bow and arrow. In quieter moments, she’s prone to saying things like, “Long ago, I swore to protect this land, Malfurion. I never had the luxury of sleeping through times of great peril.” In general, the blue-haired leader keeps a low profile, but that’s because age, time, and experience have taught her patience. She must be doing something right to have remained in power for so long.
