Legendary piano man Billy Joel is in a New York state of mind these days, and he plans to stay there.

Joel announced Tuesday he’s taking up residency at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, where he’ll play shows once a month “as long as there’s demand,” USA Today reports. Joel is already scheduled to play MSG Jan. 27, Feb. 3, March 21 and April 18 — all of which sold out — so he added an additional show May 9 and will return the following month so long as fans are asking for it. MSG touted the partnership as its “first musical franchise,” but added its welcoming back Joel, whose played 46 shows at the venue since 1978.

“I can commute to work, like everyone else does,” Joel said of his new gig. “You take the schlep factor out.”

Fans can expect a different show from Joel each month, a combination of old favorites and more obscure songs, he said.
