‘Family Guy’ Kills Off a Member Of The Fam

RIP Brian

Brian Griffin, the mainstay talking dog featured on Seth McFarlane’s animated show Family Guywas run over by a car and killed in Sunday night’s episode. He was 8 in human years, and 55 in dog years.

These Are Brian’s 14 Best Moments From Family Guy

The tragedy occurred as Brian was preparing to play street hockey with Stewie, the Griffins’ talking baby Brian’s longtime partner in crime. Thankfully, Stewie was uninjured.

But, wait: Brian the talking dog isn’t dead! He’s just gone to a farm upstate where he can have long, meaningful discussions  and drink martinis with other dogs. Right? See Fox’s tribute video to Brian below.

Horrible decision.  Did Seth McFarlane really think this was going to blow over well with fans of the show for almost 10 years?

I will watch the show if it's on, but so disappointed that such a strong character is gone, it is deleted from my dvr. :(

I hope by some miracle, he comes back to life.

Brian is dead. But that episode isn't all there is to he's dead. If you remember, Stewie went forward in time to christmas. If stewie went to see he's former self with the working time machine, he could borrow it to go back in time! And, when the car drove over Brian, we couldn't see the driver. And if look'd, it was the same prius Brian uses! It's gonna have a great time travel plot with lots of twist and turns. Brians gonna end up dead, but it wasn't just a random car driving over him. Just wait to the "Brian the closer" episode, I think it's all gonna end in there!

this is a stupid show. Seth macfarlane have not imagination at all to be original now using the dead of a dog, to get to the public like once futurama do, like really how more he can copy from Matt groening??? get real

I understand it was done because of pressure from Fox News because Brian was too liberal. Naturally, Fox News blamed Obamacare for the death.

I do hope that in all of this, Mercedes USA puts up an obituary of him. It might be a cartoon, but can't help but be affected by this so much (maybe because I'm both a Family Guy and Mercedes fan).

i AGREE THAT THIS WAS SETH MACFARLANE MADE A VERY POOR DECISION IN KILLING OFF BRIAN GRIFFIN.  MY BROTHER IN LAW WORKS AT FOX AND ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO, SETH SAID HE WANTED TO SHAKE UP THE SHOW.  I HAD HEARD ABOUT THE REPLACEMENT ITALIAN DOG NOW NAMED VINNIE.   MY VIEW IS THAT SETH HAS HAD INCREDIBLE VIEWS AND IDEAS.  HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. DO NOT EXPECT BRIAN BACK.  THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT FAMILY GUY SOLD IN SYNDICATION  SOLD FOUR YEARS AGO AS WELL AS OPRAH! i JUST THINK SETH DOES NOT CARE ANYMORE AND IS WAITING TO END THE SHOW AND DO THE FAMILY GUY MOVIE!

Everybody seriously don't worry Brian will be back. Remember in the episode when Stewie said he went forward in time to get get toys early... yes? Well let that simmer for a bit, now if it hasn't come to you yet Stewie will probably go to that same store in the near future to warm himself to not destroy the time machine, thus saving Brian. It will probably a Christmas special or something.

Family Guy has moments of sheer comedic brilliance, but then in the same vein it can desperately degrade itself to the point where preschoolers wouldn't find it funny. It's never consistent. This is why Seth McFarlane is infuriating; the talent is there, but easy, immature, toilet humor always seems to prevail.

Brian's (supposed) death simply feels cheap, rushed, and is insulting to the fan base. It would have been better, even if cliche, to use the hit-and-run scene as a season finale. You know, the "is he or isn't he?!" angle.

If McFarlane wants to end the show, end it, but do it with some sort of class and respect (a la the murder mystery episode which is one of the few crown jewel episodes). Go out on a high note.

Although, if killing off Brian is McFarlane's way of trying to off Family Guy, then well, this is a sure-fire way to do it. On the flip side, this very may well lend itself to a genuis of a plotline that may involve "alternate timelines/dimensions" and eventually bring back Brian.

Here's hoping...

This was a terrible decision! I have been watching this show since the beginning, not only did they make a stupid decision, they did it horribly so much of it didn't even fit the traditional Family Guy way of doing things. Not only that but this Tony guy's fake Italian Jersey accent and the personality of Vinny are just an assault on both sight and hearing. The only reason I think Seth Mcfarlane would cast this talent-less hack is to ensure the demise of the series. He has already said he wants to end it. He could just be a man and end it with class but nope he has to do it by trying to ruin the show at least he would still save his dignity.

It's a cartoon folks. Calm down and breath. I haven't seen people this upset since Optimus Prime was killed in the 80s.

This is McFarland's half-ass attempt to end the series.  He's wanted to kill this series for years.  He thinks that by killing off Brian, the ratings will fall and eventually he gets what he wanted. His desire is to float away with his millions and residuals so he can pursue his true calling:...Gay Broadway musicals.  Go for it, Seth!!  Sink your Family Guy profits into your failed projects.  You've lost half of your following by doing this inexcusable tragic end to your most beloved character. If you wanted to walk away from the project that you gave birth to that's ok.  But to KILL your most beloved character for the sake of your gay desires is most unforgivable even by your loyal fans. You should've sold Family Guy to a talented set of writers and animators.  Most of us couldn't care less if the main characters were voiced by you.  The animation, characters and writing is what most of us loved.  Long live Brian Griffen !!!!!   RIP Seth McFarland, and may your future gay theatric endeavors become as popular as your Conway Twitty cut-a-ways !  You Killed Brian so.90% of your future fan base was killed off as well. Your future career mirrors the life of Brian.  But, Brian will be reborn...somewhere.  In this case, Brian's Song will correspond to Seth's Death.

Stupid decision to write Brian out of the story. He was the "steadfast", and only intelligent character in the series. (except Lois, occasionally) Have Stewie invent a machine to bring him back!

He will be back on the series. Already-released future episode summaries not only mention the character, but a few of them even have his name in the title.

It's a bit of a shame, actually; I thought Tony Sirico was interesting as Vinnie.

What happened, Seth?  You heard the Simpsons were killing off a character and had to copy that, too?

This is what Seth McFarlane wanted. He wanted people to talk about this Family Guy episode so that there can be some renewed interest in Family Guy. I for one catch it now and then and on FoxNow app when I have missed an episode. Sometime I end up missing 2 or 3 episodes until I'm caught up.

By killing off Brian, it got me more interested in seeing if they will bring him back. I know there is a Family Guy movie in the works and I know they are not going to use the new character.

They are going to play with the new character Vinny  for a while, but Brian will be back. I'm positive on that.

I would have cried were it not for the fact that plot lines like this are so common for this show.  I still don't think they're going to leave him dead for very long.  Remember this isn't the first time most of this has happened, even the Griffins having another dog.  The real sad truth is that Family Guy stopped being funny a few years ago. The James Woods mansion murder mystery was the last truly funny episode, and would have been the ideal series finale.  American Dad!, The Cleveland Show and Bob's Burgers are all more entertaining now.

Oh, by the way McFarlane, why are you stereotyping Italian-Americans with that mockery of a cartoon dog; if you were a more honest person you would have given the evil money an Afican-American accent, the brawling chicken an Irish brogue and show the Hispanic maid doing coke.

@ZackSung Agreed. Brian was one of the few people that would try and talk some sense into Peter. Everyone else just either watched him do something stupid or ended up hurt because he did something stupid.

@byronstroop Seth does the voice for quagmire, Stewie, Peter AND Brian also the overuse of the word gay just outlines your hidden desires to come out from the closet.

@lilinnn20 This is the most inaccurate of ALL of them!! One, Family Guy has never killed off a family member. Two, it's never lost its edge.
