Middle Earth fans have been spoiled by Hollywood in recent years. First there was Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, followed by the first Hobbit film, and on Dec. 13 the second installment in the series, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, will be hitting theaters. But the most devoted fans of the fantasy series and their much-loved writer, J.R.R. Tolkien, will have yet another film to look forward to: Chernin Entertainment and Fox Searchlight are developing a biopic of Tolkien’s life.

The Los Angeles Times reports that it’s unclear how much the notoriously private Tolkien estate is involved with the project — if at all — but the movie already has a script, penned by David Gleeson. Tentatively called Tolkien, the film “will examine the author’s life, particularly his formative years at Pembroke College and as a soldier in World War I, and how it influenced him and his work,” according to the Times. Another potential plot point of the biopic could be the South Africa-born, Britain-raised writer’s close friendship with C.S. Lewis.

Well, we can hope, anyway.
