Marcia Wallace, the voice of elementary school teacher Edna Krabappel on The Simpsons, has died at age 70, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Wallace recorded 177 episodes with the series, and won an Emmy for her work as Ms. Krabappel in the 1992 episode “Bart the Lover.” From 1972 to 1978, she starred as Carol Kester on The Bob Newhart Show.
Simpsons executive producer Al Jean said in a statement that Wallace’s character wasn’t the one that would be killed off in a future episode.
The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985, and won the Gilda Radner Courage Award from Roswell Park Center Institute for her advocacy work in 2007. Her husband, Dennis Hawley, died of pancreatic cancer in 1992. She leaves behind a son.
