Julianne Hough arrived at a Beverley Hills Halloween party Friday night dressed as the character Crazy Eyes from the Netflix drama Orange Is the New Black.

In addition to wearing a jumpsuit and prison ID labeled “Crazy Eyes,” Hough also darkened her skin with makeup.

After the costume stirred controversy online, Hough took to Twitter to apologize, according to People magazine.

“It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.”

I take it that we need to rate movies and plays as private to specific ethnic or cultural groups now...since its apparent than many see performances of certain characters as private and maybe accurate or humorous within their group. but offensive when enjoyed or performed by anyone outside that group.

Should Batman the crazy white vigilante be "illegal" if performed or worn by some of another ethnic group?

How about Hannibal Lector?

No more sombreros and moustaches, no more indian chiefs ... but thumbs up for letting 5-years old kids kill their sisters with guns, spying on just everybody, torture in the name of justice.

Welcome to the hypocrite U.S. society - the world loves you for that (well, and they show it in their own ways...)

As a rule people should not use black face. Or tape their eyes to pretend to be Asian ect. You just don't.

Hough could have dressed up as any one of the numerous white characters on the show (all of whom are just as interesting and unique as the black ones), without having to use blackface. It's inexcusable really.

@SarahConfran Yup don't imitate those who are your ethical or racial betters. But the Wayans as white females is OK.

@uudkio Excuse me but WHY is it okay for two black people to make an entire film pretending to be two white girls? This is a holiday, called Halloween. She should NOT have to apologize. The character is black, usually you go all out on your costume to look like the character - it's NOT racist, it's how the person looks. Maybe we should stop being so sensitive. Dave Chappelle uses "white face" all the time when he want's to portray white people, do white people complain? No.

@uudkio So, just because she was white, she couldn't use that character for a freaking Halloween costume, ya know...the time where you can dress up as anyone you want to? Why is it inexcusable? Maybe instead of apologizing, she should've just called out their BS.
